課程摘要
Criminal behavior has always been an important issue, is a major concern for the pubic, as well as for criminologists, psychologists, and sociology scholars. Violations of the law not only affect social security, but also incur a huge price for society, and particularly for the victims and their families. The causes of criminal behavior are extremely complex, including biological, cultural, social, and psychological aspects, and cannot be explained by a single factor. The cold-blooded killer, the professional killer who kills without blinking, the ruthless mother who killed her own child, the young man who slashed passers-by to death seemingly like crazy...we are all familiar with these. This course mainly discusses criminal cases related to pathological personality and borderline personality disorders, from the perspective of cognitive neuroscience, with the aim of exploring whether the reasons for these criminal actors committing serious violent crimes lies in problems of the cognitive systems of the brain. This semester the course is divided into four parts. The first part introduces basic brain structure, the neural mechanisms of emotion, the neural mechanisms of violent behavior and the neural mechanisms of reward. The second part focuses on morbid personality, and introduces behavioral traits and their related neural mechanisms. The third part focuses on borderline personality disorders, and introduces related behavioral traits and neural mechanisms. The fourth section describes the types of atrocities and the neurophysiological differences relating to various types of violence. This course hopes to increase the vividness of the content through examination of the plots of crime-related movies, and to make it easier for students to understand the behavioral characteristics and physiological causes of these crimes.
